balance home career children husband friends school ph levels macro greens

July 23 to August 22 - Zodiac Sign: Leo - Element: Fire - Color: Orange-Yellow

I believe the most important thing a woman can do for her family and friends is to be selfish. Yes, selfish. I don't mean hang out at the spa while her children are barefoot and hungry. I am talking about taking the best possible care of herself and in doing so, lead by example. Children of all ages learn by what they see, not by what you tell them. I know this to be true because I have a husband and have raised two sons. They have never changed a behavior because of a lecture, but they have changed by following my lead. Even if you don't have a husband or children it works the same with friends and co-workers. Just by being healthy and confident I think women have the power to change the world. The family unit may be the backbone of our civilization, but it's women who give the family its heart. The feminine is a powerful force of nature. This goes for you guys too. The true feminine is not a weakness, rather a strength. It allows us to show empathy, compassion and cooperation. Let’s face it our out-of-balance world could use a few more men and women with those traits.

We balance home, career, children, husband, friends, school and if there is any time leftover our social life. As we go through our day our internal body is trying to stay balanced too. Just as others in our external world depend on us to make good decisions our internal world also is dependent on our decisions. If we don't make "selfish" choices for ourselves, then everyone depending on us will suffer. It is indulgent and undisciplined not to be selfish. And what is the ultimate selfish decision a woman can make? It is to balance her internal pH levels. Once balanced internally a woman can't help but radiate health and self confidence to everyone she meets. Everyone will be thinking; "I don't know what she's got, but I want some!"

This basic chemistry of our lives is no mystery. The most common laboratory test taken is for pH. The acronym pH stands for the "potential of Hydrogen" as it relates to the acid to alkaline ratios existing in all matter or the hydrogen-ion activity. The pH scale goes from 0.0 - acid to 14.0 - alkaline, with 7.0 being considered neutral. Everything on this planet has its optimal pH level. Within the human body organs, tissues, bones and fluids have their own pH levels. Each designed to do its job. Stomach acid has a pH of around 2.8, bones hold our greatest stores of alkalizing calcium and magnesium at around 8.0, blood is slightly alkaline at a pH of 7.365. Cells are acid as they do their job of dividing and reproducing. It makes sense then that the liquid medium in which the cells work (our blood), must be slightly alkaline. The play of acid and alkaline is life itself, creating the electrical charge we need to be alive. It is when this vital fluid becomes more acid, the problems begin. Not at first, our body is designed to balance itself. When the blood becomes too acid, it borrows alkalinity from our great stores of calcium and magnesium in our bones and teeth.

After years of borrowing from bones to correct blood pH it is no wonder we develop osteoporosis. Not surprisingly then that elderly people wear dentures. But it doesn't stop there. Alkalizing minerals are sacrificed from all of our tissues to keep us alive, because a slight drop in blood pH results in death. We create fat because it neutralizes acid. Think about it, those extra pounds you've put on and can't take off are nothing more than your body response to eating and drinking too many acid foods. Heart clogging cholesterol — you guessed it — it is your body response to acid.

The only way to counter acid is with buffers. The most common alkalizing buffers are calcium, magnesium and potassium. If we do not take in enough alkalizing buffers in the way of food and drink, then our body has no choice but to start making withdrawals from its large bank of minerals within itself. If we do not replenish these banks of minerals, eventually they will have to declare bankruptcy and go out of business. We have no way of knowing when that will happen, since we are all biochemically unique. For some, our depleted bodies start to show signs of this "dis-ease" after the birth of a child or at menopause. For others it shows up later in life in the form of dementia and bone fractures.

Foods that contain caffeine, processed sugar, hydrogenated oils and a host of artificial ingredients send our body false messages. That cup of coffee may give us a short lived burst of energy, but what happens when the temporary buzz is over. Soon we are looking for the next fix, something sweet to keep us going or perhaps a diet cola. The truth is that these artificial stimulants are highly acid and are causing your adrenal glands to produce more adrenaline than they would normally produce. The main function of the adrenal glands is to regulate the stress response through the making of corticosteroids and catecholamines, including cortisol and adrenaline. So by artificially causing the adrenals to produce more cortisol and adrenaline we are depleting these important little organs by making them believe you need a stress response, when in fact, you just need some alkalinity. Later when we truly need a little extra adrenaline, there isn't any to give.

Any woman who wears make-up knows that the pH of the products used must work with the pH of the skin. The same is true of shampoo and lotions. We also know that we get indigestion and heartburn if the pH of our stomach is out of wack. But did you know pH is the underlying factor for: bone density, tooth decay, weight management, clear skin, mental clarity, total body detox, acid reflux and vitamin and mineral absorption. This dis-ease within us occurs when our body is too busy with clean-up and repair, leaving no time to rebuild cells and fight free radical damage. When we eat acid foods and beverages we shouldn't be surprised that our energy levels bottom out. We don't need fast energy, we need quality slow burning energy. The type found in whole green foods.

I am not talking about becoming a vegetarian. But I am strongly suggesting that eating more green foods as being the best and most natural way to balance body systems. Here are the guidelines I follow: 80% by weight, green foods (a little over 50% of that raw the balance from cooked vegetables and healthy fats) to 20% by weight, healthy acid forming foods such as wild caught fish, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Following this formula, in order to balance a 4 ounce piece of salmon, 16 ounces of green foods would need to be eaten. The 80% alkalizing foods may be supplemented with alkalizing green juice powders such as Macro Greens or Sweet Wheat or Heavenly Greens. Keep in mind that sugar, in all forms, produces acid. Eliminating sweets, including fruit juice and all sweet fruit is recommended to achieve pH balance.

In addition to an alkalizing diet we must also drink enough good mineral rich water to replace depleted minerals and to flush out waste and toxins. The guidelines for proper hydration are half of body weight in ounces of water everyday, more if exercising or in the sun. So if a woman weighs 120 pounds, she would need a minimum of 60 ounces of water a day or about two quarts / liters of water. Adding 8 drops of Cellfood or a little bit of fresh lemon juice to drinking water is extremely alkaline forming. What we don't do can be as important as what we do. Eliminating toxic artificial overly processed highly acid convenience foods is a must for pH balance. Holding on to toxic thoughts and activities also affects pH levels. A practice of forgiveness and gratitude goes a long way healing acid soaked tissues. Moderate exercise, sun light and quality rest finish the formula for a selfish lifestyle.

Women need to realize their power. Not to power over, but to power through. In the words of Marianne Williamson, from A Return to Love:
"We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."

As we move forward with our lives let us allow the radiant feminine to be the example and standard by which we help others. People respond positively to strength not weakness. Selfishly maintaining a balanced internal pH level is a gift we share with everyone.
