An Old Truth for a New Millenium

healthy lifestyle guru Jack LaLanne
The saying "there's nothing new under the sun", is especially true when it comes to nutrition. It was true in the 4th century BC when Hippocrates stated that food is the best medicine. It was true when his biographer Soranus of Ephesus in the 2nd century AD, reintroduced his philosophy stating disease is caused naturally and not as punishment by the gods. Hippocratic medicine was humble and passive. This therapeutic approach was based on "the healing power of nature". This belief was still true 17 centuries later when Antoine Béchamp dared to challenge Louis Pasteur’s germ theory. Béchamp’s research showed that a diseased state caused illness not the other way around. Béchamp believed that living entities called "microzymes" in the blood created bacteria in response to host and environmental factors; he did not believe that bacteria could invade a healthy host and create disease on their own, rather a weakened immune system was the cause.

There have been many throughout the ages both before Hippocrates and there will be many more in the future who believe in the basics; strong spirit, clear thoughts, clean air, clean water, beautiful whole foods, healthy exercise and above all balance in all things. Watch the following video clip from a mid 1950’s TV show hosted by exercise and healthy lifestyle guru Jack LaLanne.

I couldn’t have said that any better myself. The thing that blows my mind is that he said that 60 years ago, and it all that time nothing has changed. In fact, it’s gotten worse. Even more mind blowing is the fact that 2,300 years ago Hippocrates was saying the same thing. I’m sure Chinese and Egyptian healers were saying it 4,000 even 5,000 years ago. Even Ötzi the Iceman, a 5,300 year old mummified European man found in the Alps in 1991, had a pouch with him containing mushrooms and herbs. Yet here we are. Sick, tired and dragging ourselves out of bed every morning. It doesn’t need to be this way. Beautiful food is still available. We just need to open our eyes and become fully awake. This is not complicated. In fact it’s just the opposite, it’s so easy we can’t believe it can possibly be true. Nutrition isn’t anything more than the basics of whole foods, pure water, and adequate exercise. Making healthy choices can be customized to any budget. Can’t afford a rebounder, walk 20 minutes everyday. Can’t afford a big expensive water purification system, purchase an inexpensive drinking water powered water filtration system from Aquasana. Don’t have time or money for organic veggies buy a tub of Macro Greens great nutrition for pennies a day. Accept my gift to you Free Toxic Screening Test and Free Recipes

If you truly believe in first do no harm, make the decision in this moment to treat your body with love and respect. Like the creator, we create our reality with each thought. With each action. With every bite of food, sip of water, and movement. We are all a work in progress. There is no right or wrong way to be. Humans are the very embodiment of free will. There is however, a consequence for every action. Cleaning up your internal world will empower you to help clean up the world we all share. Every time you eat an organic fruit or vegetable you are supporting sustainable farming practices. When you say no to harmful chemical laden products you are supporting clean air and water. And when you smile because you feel so darn good people will smile back. The only cure for darkness is light. Be the light. We are at the start of a new year in the beginning of a new millenium, making this the perfect time to start creating a happier more joy filled healthier new you. This is your reality, your experience... make it abundant.
